I guess my point really is that the richness of the media we share is so very different now than it was when we were growing up - facilitating the process of reflection. This includes the multiple perspectives that are involved with social media and networking - if we continue to post him on Facebook - eventually he'll start to communicate with family and friends who will share meaningful information with him regarding who he is - following in chronological order how he changes - that, to me, is powerful stuff!

OK, I know I have been a touch cynical about the difference between generations when it comes to technology, but here I take your point. I have often been struck by the sheer volume of photographs that we have of the boys, and how their viewing of their lives in retrospect will be so much different than mine is of my life. But is that the same as memory? I think that knowing that something happened because you have a picture of it is not the same as remembering, and maybe the basis of reflection, but is not reflection itself. So how do we help ourselves and our kids make the bridge to reflection?
